CAMMS is attached to the Manufacturing, Biomedical, & Facilities Engineering department in CIT. The centre has been in existence for over 17 years, over which time a strong suite of night time manufacturing, quality and process control programmes have been developed. The centre uses the design, build, test and validate expertise of the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering departments in solving problems for industry and in delivering up to date training and education.
CAMMS is an active member of the South West Regional Authority’s DRIVE for growth project, promoting sustainable development and enhancing connections between the Research and Production communities across the EU and an active member of EU IEAA (Intelligent Energy Executive Agency) TRAINENERGY project, which aims to train sustainable energy principles to trainers and craftsmen across the EU.
CAMMS strategy aligns closely with that of the institute’s, i.e. to provide student-centred education with a career focus for the benefit of the personal, intellectual and professional development of the student and for the benefit of the whole of society. The centre uses a combination of external consultants and in-house lecturers to provide a broad scope of industrial and academic expertise.
In line with the institute’s strategy, the centre endeavors “to benefit the whole of society” through both its cross-skilling programmes and entry level feeder programmes (such as the Certified Manufacturing Technician). In addition to these feeder programmes, CAMMS specialises in high-tech niche courses, including suites of programmes in Manufacturing/Quality, Process Control & Automation, Project Management, & Sustainable Energy.
The centre is currently developing a suite of project management courses, further developing the sustainable energy suite and creating six sigma black belt and lean expert programmes with the aim of offering minor and special purpose awards.
