The awarding body is the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), which has 70,000 members world-wide. The SME is dedicated to the dissemination of information and education in the area of manufacturing engineering. Two levels of Certification are offered:

Candidates must have a minimum of four years manufacturing experience or two years relevant education.
